That red feel like a blood bath in this, especially the way the brush strokes in the walls seem to lead into the patterns on the bed, which in turn appear to trickle through the girl's fingers and on to the floor. It's such a strange double portrait. I'm assuming the woman on the left is the child's governess? The wariness, the confrontational pose of the child. Very unsettling.
